How We Work

Cohasset Maritime Institute Rules & Regulations

Inclement Weather:

It's club policy for members to show up for their rowing times in all weather. The coxes will determine if it's appropriate to go rowing or not. Erg use will be available in the boathouse in the event rowing is cancelled.

In order for CMI to run smoothly, please adhere to the following:

1. Everyone must arrive at least 20 minutes prior to their scheduled rowing time. The boats need to be prepared, towed to the waterís edge and lowered into the water before they can be used. Every rower is expected to assist their fellow rowers and crews in this exercise so that all boats can launch by their scheduled time. This will ensure that everyone will be able to row the entire hour and half. (Even if the boats are already in the water when you arrive, your body could use the 20 minutes to stretch and warm up on the ergs !)

2. All rowers are expected to assist in properly storing all equipment at the end of their row, including storing and cleaning boats so they are ready for the next crews.

3. There is a Master Substitute List. It is very important that each rower be responsible for obtaining his/her own substitute if unable to make a scheduled row. Arrange for a substitute in a timely manner. Teams cannot row without a full crew. Individuals leaving their crews shorthanded may be dropped from the crew.

4. If an entire crew cannot make a scheduled row, please make sure that the Boathouse Manager is notified in a timely manner. We do not want to schedule a cox if a boat is not going to be needed. "No show" crews will be charged a fee of $25.00.

5. Please make sure to arrive with your own life vest (PFD) every time that you row.

6. Each crew must fill out a Float Plan before going on the water. The Float Plan must be signed by a crew member upon return to the boathouse. Note on the form any problems with equipment and direct that information to the Boathouse Manager.

7. Make sure that a radio is in each boat before launching for a row. Double check that the radio is on, operable and accessible while underway.

8. CMI is expected to be a good neighbor to all. To the Town by keeping Marinersí Park clean. To the neighbors by respecting the 15 mph speed limit on Parker Avenue. To the Sailing Club, Lighthouse Keepers and Government Island users by respecting their parking needs and maintaining the boathouse and walkway and surrounding area. Please contribute to make CMI the best neighbor it can be.

Thank you
